Accessibility

Entry
As you enter the Rechabite on the ground floor, there are two 20cm steps through a pair of big, wide doors. There is a wheelchair accessible entry via William Street in the alcove to the left of the main entry which you can ask the usher to show you. If you want, the usher can also show you the lift which is to the left of the main entry and the accessible entry. The lift dimensions are 1.26m(D) x 1.41m(W) x 2.17m(H). The lift goes to all four levels of the building: the basement (where the toilets are), the ground floor (entry), the main hall (Here we go gig space) and the rooftop (where the smoking ceremony is). If you don’t use the lift, you can access all levels of the venue using stairs.

Atmosphere
The performances in the main hall will take place on the stage and in the centre of the room on the floor. You can watch from the floor, or from the two mezzanine levels around the edge of the room — these are only accessible via stairs. The performances may be very loud at times. No strobes will be used, but dynamic lighting and projections will be used throughout. Free earplugs and N95 masks will be available.

Low-stim zone
There will be a low-stimulation zone on the first floor — the same as the main hall. It can be found to the right of the main stairs. This space will be quiet with comfortable seating. In the room you will find headphones which you can use to listen to the performances happening in the main hall. You can adjust your own volume individually to whatever feels comfortable. You can also access unisex toilets from there, which are located in the back corner.

Bathrooms
Unisex accessible bathrooms can be found on the basement level and are accessible via lift and stairs.

Details

It’s time to dive in! Here we go is the opening party for Audible Edge 2025, held in the lofty Rechabite Hall. This is one for everyone to celebrate together - but especially the electronic music heads, the gamers and the weirdo-pop fiends.

The night features two ambitious new works from local artists Michael Terren and Scratching. Michael flexes his incomparable electronic production chops in a critical exploration of the aesthetics of videogame sound design. Expect ‘whoosh’, ‘bang’, ‘slice’ and ‘zwing’ in unbelievably high fidelity. At the top of the night, Scratching unleash their wildest dreams on us with a custom stage installation of greenery and abundance, performing as a five piece blending glossy electronics and earthy acoustic instrumentation. Both artists are supported by the Audible Edge Seed Fund.

Alongside our local heroes is sound artist Jess Robinson from Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, visiting for their debut performance on this continent. Jess’ works with hardcoded audio algorithms to light up the Main Hall with layered visual projections and glittery electronic crackles. Finally, west-coast-born Aarti Jadu, now based in Naarm, presents their new project SICFWYLF and Variations. Working with George Worthy and Emma Ovenden, they tease out mantra-like melodies in a cyclical interplay between voice, harmonium, winds and electronics.

Across the evening Yira (DJ) caretakes the space between live sets with her selections, keeping the fire burning and the mud slugging. It’ll be a high-energy, deep-listening event with that opening night buzz!
