Scratching
A sextet version of a beloved visionary pop duo. Hanging gardens, outsider soul and striking electronics.
SCRATCHING is the electronic alt-pop brainchild of singer-songwriter Grace Sanders and co-writer/producer Ezekiel Padmanabham (Methyl Ethel). Exploring the boundaries between pop, electronic and indie-folk, the duo infuse the spirit of experimentation and playfulness into their performances and recorded works. Initially working under ‘Grace Sanders’, the pair have recorded and released two EP’s together; 'GUMS' in 2021 and 2022’s ‘nothing is personal’ which earned them acclaim from Triple J, Tone Deaf, NME, Pilerats, MTV Australia & more. 2024 sees the pairing adopt a new identity under SCRATCHING, crafting a new space to push boundaries and their collaborative effort to new heights. Inspired by the likes of artists including Jockstrap, Aldous Harding, Solange, Frank Ocean, Big Thief, Bjork, Fiest and Blood Orange, their music spans the genres between dance and more sensitive acoustic songwriting to create an intimate and diverse artistic experience that takes you into their world through familiar and yet contrasting soundscapes and contemplative lyricism. Currently recording a new self titled outing with a DIY approach, the pair will infuse dance music with alternative influences creating their most lively and hopeful outing yet that breaks the mould of what is popular and creates work that is forward thinking and completely its own.
