Accessibility

  • Please note this workshop may include discussions about body image, for the purpose of learning to play music more confidently and freely as ourselves. Any discussion or disclosure of sensitive topics will be prefaced with a content warning during the workshop.

  • Facilitators will check-in with participants at the start of this workshop and ongoingly, to ensure the pace and vibe of facilitation is comfortable with everyone.

  • This workshop will have some sections with lots of linear talking, and other sections with quiet and time to think. There will also be some guided exercises, which don’t have a “correct” interpretation or outcome.

  • This event will be relaxed with low sensory input. Sometimes participants or facilitators will play an instrument to demonstrate a sound or technique, or to share an improvised performance or work-in-progress, so we will check-in about potential noise triggers at the start of the workshop.

  • Crip Constellation workshops will be coordinated by disabled peer, who is an experienced facilitator who identifies as brown, queer, physically disabled, mobility aid-using, autistic, and mentally ill.

  • There is a wheelchair accessible entry via William Street in the alcove to the left of the main double doors. This will be the main entry to the venue for the workshop: a Tone List team member will be present to open the door upon your arrival. The full venue is accessible via stairs or a lift. The lift dimensions are 1.26m(D) x 1.41m(W) x 2.17m(H). The lift goes to all four levels of the building: the basement (where the toilets are), the ground floor (entry) and the main hall (event space) and the rooftop.

  • All-gender accessible bathrooms can be found on the basement level.

  • Lighting in the entry of the building is mainly dim and natural light. The workshop venue will be lit with warm and non-florescent lighting. A chill out area will be set up in a quieter part of the room. Seating will be foldout plastic chairs, and cushions and blankets to be on the floor. The room will be wide, spacious, flat, and mobility aid-friendly.

  • Participation in this workshop can be hybrid, and a Zoom link will be emailed to all registered participants on the day.

  • The Rechabite is approximately 500m from Perth Underground train station over pavement. Nearby bus stops are the Perth Busport (400m), the Beaufort St Museum stop (450m), and Wellington St (500m) bus stops. ACROD parking is available at the numerous CPP parking stations nearby, the closest of which is the State Library of WA carpark accessible via 15 Francis St.

  • Audible Edge Festival has secured funding for an accessibility budget. Please mention on your registration form if you’d like to use this and we will be in touch with you.

About Crip Constellations

This music workshop will be presented as part of a Crip Constellations sessiona disabled-only and self-determined space to explore our own voices, practices and identities.

The session are curated and facilitated by disabled musician, composer and peer teaching artist Patrick Gunasekera, and follow the format shown above in the schedule. After the facilitated workshop, the afternoon section will give participants space to explore and share (or just listen) on their own terms about anything that is current in their practice. The overall flow and vibe of these workshops will be guided by how participants are feeling on the day.

To ensure enough time for all participants to contribute fully in discussions and exercises, each workshop will have a maximum capacity of ten participants.
