Tetuzi Akiyama & Craig Pedersen
A guitar & trumpet/bass duo mixing song and sound, creating time through performance. Focus on texture, minimal action, and silence define their sonic world.
Mixing song and sound, Tetuzi Akiyama (guitar) and Craig Pedersen (bass/trumpet) create time through performance using non-linear flow of sound. Attention to texture, the minimum necessary counter action and use of silence define and redefine their sonic world.
Tetuzi Akiyama specializes in creating music with elements of both primitivism and realism by connecting his own aspirations, in a minimal and straightforward way, to the special instrumental qualities of the guitar. Sometimes delicately and sometimes boldly, he controls sound volumes ranging from micro to macro, in an attempt to convert the body into an electronic entity.
Craig Pedersen is a trumpet player, composer and improvisor recently moved to Boorloo/Perth from Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. He is constantly searching for expressive potentials, seeking a music that defies understanding and moves in unexplainable and unexpected ways. In addition to his own groups The Craig Pedersen Quartet / Quintet and Sound of the Mountain, he has played with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Toshimaru Nakamura, Pauline Oliveros, Keiji Haino, Tetuzi Akiyama, Shinkan Tamaki, Zhao Cong, Yong Yandsen, Gudinni Cortina, Manfred Werder, Jean Derome, Joane Hetu, Ian Birse and Laura Kavanaugh (Instant Places), Vicky Mettler (Kee Avil) , Bennett Bedoukian and Mark Molnar, as well as many others.
