• Cash Promise & Flora Carbo

Boorloo's big-brain jazz promoter Natasha Thomas takes visiting improvising saxophonist Flora Carbo to DJ school.

Boorloo-born and based DJ, broadcaster and collective organiser Tash Thomas (she/her) is one of the city's go-to selectors and tastemakers for 21st century jazz and jazz-adjacent sounds. A champion of many styles, Tash discovered a deep love for contemporary jazz while living in London (2014-2020), where she worked as a publicist for emerging and established jazz artists & high-profile festivals across the UK and Europe. She has worked with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tony Allen, Love Supreme Jazz Festival (UK), Cheltenham Jazz Festival (UK), and North Sea Jazz Festival (NL). Since moving back to her hometown (Perth, Australia) in 2020, she has built a reputation as an in-demand music curator with her eclectic DJ sets, mixes and radio shows taking listeners in many directions— from spiritual jazz, ambient and electronic excursions, to polyrhythmic beats, West African grooves, Brazilian and house — that foster deep-listening experiences and leftfield dancefloor moments. She has performed at venues across Perth including The Rechabite, The Bird, Patio Bar, Clancy’s Fremantle and Mojos. Tash also co-runs jade//vision; a Boorloo collective platforming music that delivers on the promise of what jazz can be, developing community through collaborative live events, music curation, and a soon-to-launch label imprint. She is currently the Development & Audience Engagement Manager at RTRFM and a regular presenter on RTRFMs Giant Steps show.

Flora Carbo is a saxophonist, composer and music leader from Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). Her unique practice creates novel musical environments that connect people through improvisation, composition and conceptual works, led by her explorations into the vocal qualities of the alto saxophone.
